Religious Studies at St George's School

The School is part of the ancient College of St George in Windsor Castle and, as such, has a rich Christian heritage. Appreciating this Christian heritage has therefore a significant focus within the Religious Studies curriculum at St George's. However, we very warmly welcome into the School community pupils from other faiths and believe that we can learn much from one another's traditions and cultures.

Religious Studies plays a significant part in every child's social, moral, cultural and spiritual development. Irrespective of whether they have a religious background or not, all pupils have the potential of developing spirituality. The primary objective, therefore, of collective worship and Religious Studies teaching in the School is to facilitate pupils' spiritual awareness and understanding by exploring the diversity of religious faiths and experiences, and by reflecting on life issues and the part God plays in this. All pupils are strongly encouraged to learn from a broad range of people's faith experiences, to ask challenging questions as they grapple with their own sense of faith, and to discuss their feelings and findings in an open, honest and secure environment. Open-mindedness, tolerance and mutual support are instilled as key virtues for life.

It is hoped that when pupils leave St George's they will have an appreciation of fundamental spiritual and moral values and begin to be able to articulate their own religious beliefs. In doing so, they will be well prepared for the challenges of life in being confident, open and intellectually questioning individuals.
