The art department plays a vital role in supporting the development of creativity in pupils at the school. There are weekly lessons for all classes where children explore any number of techniques and media for artistic expression, including drawing, graphics, design, textiles, painting, and pottery. The variety of work on display around the school and the very high standards achieved by the pupils bears testimony to the popularity and success of this department.
The art room is a lively space where pupils work with purpose and industry. Pupils are encouraged to explore new ideas, to experiment and to make artistic judgments about their work. Additional to the timetabled class taught lessons, there is an after-school art club which is available as part of the Activity programme. There is a class for pupils in Years 7 and 8 who are preparing for scholarships at their chosen public schools.
The various displays of pupil's work around the school are updated regularly throughout the year. The Department has held two public exhibitions in the Cloisters of the Chapel at Windsor Castle and children's work is published regularly in the editions of The Companion magazine which enjoys an extensive readership both in the UK and abroad.
