The Supernumeraries' Choir
The Supers meet twice each week on Tuesday and Thursday mornings [8.50 a.m. and 8.25 a.m. respectively]. There are a more or less equal number of boys and girls in the group and they perform a repertoire of both sacred and secular music. Once or twice each term they sing services of Evensong in the St George's Chapel, and also perform at weddings and for carol services and concerts, both at school and when booked by other organisations.
Over the past few years, they have taken part in the School's production of Menotti's opera Amahl and the Night Visitors in the Windsor Parish Church, they performed for the Confirmation Service of TRH Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie in the Chapel in the Great Park and for te pas three years have been booked to sing in the ABBA Reunion concerts at the Albert Hall, the Wembley Arena and the Brighton Centre. In 2009 they recorded two programmes for BBC Songs of Praise, which were broadcast in April and September. .jpg)
In November 2009, two children performed solos in the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance, which was broadcast live from the Royal Albert Hall.
Quite often the group now divides and smaller chamber choirs take on a number of outside bookings. They recorded for the school CD recording in May 2008.
Children are auditioned for this choir, but the test is very informal and certainly nothing for anyone to worry about.
The Training Choirs in Years 3, 4 and 5
Boys and girls in the Middle School are encouraged to participate in the year groups' Training choir programme. The Junior Choir of previous years became increasing popular and it was decided to develop the training of the children in these classes so as to better prepare them for a role in either the Supers' Choir or the Chapel Choir. They meet in form period slots during the week and additional to the more secular repertoire one would anticipate for younger children, they are also introduced to a little of the material they might need to sing in services in the Chapel, including psalms. They sing in school assemblies in the Chapel and for the PA Christmas Carol evening. Each of the three Training Choirs were recorded fro the school CD in May 2008. Probationary choristers continue to sing with the Training Choirs until Year 5, when they become Novices.
Children are not auditioned for these choirs and none are excluded.
The Year 2 Choir
This group is trained by specialist staff in the Pre Prep. They perform in the end-of-term assemblies in the Pre Prep and in one or two of the Pre-Prep music concerts throughout the year. They were recorded for the school CD in May 2008. They too are not auditioned.
