Every Child Matters has been one of the most important policy initiatives of recent years, and would lead to the Children Act of 2004. It covers the provision for children and young adults up to the age of 19.

Its main aims are for every child, whatever their background or their circumstances, to have the support they need to:
§ Be healthy
§ Stay safe
§ Enjoy and achieve
§ Make a positive contribution
§ Achieve economic well-being
These five outcomes need to be at the heart of everything a school does and reinforced through every aspect of its curriculum - lessons, events, routines, the environment in which children learn and what they do out of school.
We need to remain mindful that we do not ever make the assumption that in fee-paying education there might not be children in need of our help and intervention. At St George's, we strive to ensure that every pupil is given the chance to access the skills they will need to achieve the five goals and that they can always learn and develop in a safe and supportive school environment.
