When I was a probationer (in my first year)
there were a lot of scholarships and as I grew up there were
a lot of scholarships and so when I was younger I assumed
that a chorister that entered for a music scholarship automatically
got it. Well that is a shattered dream for me now and yes
I do have to work hard to get a music scholarship!
"The boys don't do scholarships because the school
tells them to do it. The boys do it and excel at being choristers
because they want to. They take a huge amount of pride in
doing what they do, in being professionals, in being performers.
They've done it for themselves and they can hold their
heads high. I think a lot of them see that the next stage
they can go on to for themselves is to get some sort of recognition
of that and a lot of them want to go for music scholarships.
Very few of them are pushed by their parents to go that route."
