Boarding at St George's is an exciting experience and for some it will co-incide with starting at a new school. The opportunity to make new friends and learn new things can seem a little daunting. All boarders are supported by a dedicated team of House Staff who strive to help them settle easily, be happy and enjoy the benefits boarding can offer.
A Boarding Handbook provides guidance to parents and to children. There is a separate Choristers' Handbook with full details of their role in the Chapel Choir and in the School.
There are three different levels of boarding at St George's:
Full Boarding : Full Choristers have to be in school to sing the Sunday services in St George's Chapel. As Choristers have no regular duties on Saturdays, they may go home from Friday evening until Sunday morning. The few exceptions to this are conveyed to parents well in advance.
Weekly Boarding: This is a popular option for boys and girls whose parents wish them to board from Monday to Friday.
Flexi-Boarding: Many of our pupils are flexi or occasional boarders. Some stay on a regular night(s) each week, some when their parents are away on business trips and others try it out to help them prepare for boarding at their senior schools.
The Boarding House is staffed by a dedicated team. The House Master and his wife are assisted by the Assistant House Mistress. Additionally, there is a permanently resident Matron and another, who resides in school when such cover is required. We have four Gap Students, two male and two female, who live in the Boarding House, and assist with activities in the evenings.
Every care is taken to look after our boarders' medical needs, with daily surgeries held by the Matron. The School Doctor is always available in an emergency, and holds his own surgeries in school once a week.
Regular contact with parents is welcomed and encouraged, and we believe we succeed in our aim to provide a safe, comfortable and supportive home away from home.
