The School is constantly mindful of the importance of an exceptional provision of pastoral care in our community.
We believe that emotional and social well-being and growth, self-esteem and confidence are of prime importance and inextricably linked with academic progress. Respect for and faith in children, coupled with the ability to see the world through their eyes, are at the root of our teaching and care.
Pastoral care encompasses the need to take an interest in any matter that may have bearing on a child's welfare and happiness and to ensure that appropriate action is taken to promote their well-being.
All staff contribute to the pastoral care of the children. The School Chaplain plays a vital role in the provision of care and the Pastoral Care office is available to children at any time during the school day. In the Pre-Prep and the Middle School, pupil development and well being is closely monitored by their form teachers. In the Senior School each pupil is assigned a personal tutor with whom s/he will meet on a weekly basis throughout the academic year.
The mentoring scheme, where Year 8 pupils are assigned to specific class groups, affords another level of interaction for younger pupils in the process of their social development.
In the Boarding House, pupils are able to talk to the Housemaster and his wife, to the Assistant Housemaster, to the Matrons, the Chaplain or any of the four Gap students.
Assemblies and PSHCE lessons do much to address some of the complex issues which face children in today's society and there is a clear message encouraging them to talk to an adult about anything that may be concerning them.
The Child Protection Team meets weekly:
